Ethiopia is considered as the Promise Land by the Rastafarians people. Many of them dream of returning to Africa, their land of origin. In 1948 the Ethiopian Emperor Haile Selassie I, who is considered a divinity by the Rastafarians, gave a piece of land to the Ethiopian World Federation, a non-governmental organization that was in charge of allowing African Americans to return to their ancestral lands in Africa. Thus Shashamane was born, a place where Rastafarians from all over the world come to live. Today there live about two hundred Rastafarians who have brought with them their traditions and art; many of them coming from the Caribbean area.
