The Afar are a nomadic ethnic group living in the Horn of Africa, mainly in the Ethiopian Afar Region. They live in the Danakil Depression, a region which is considered one of the most inhospitable on the planet due to the very high temperatures. The Afar, who are mostly Muslim, have traditionally engaged in breeding of dromedaries and salt trading. They work, transport and sell salt extracted from the soil. It is harvested by the Afar in the salt plains, where it is loaded, transported along the salt routes and then sold in the markets of urban agglomerations.
Some photos have been exposed in Addis Ababa, Asmara and Rome.
