The Kunama are considered one of the oldest ethnic group of Eritrea. They live around Barentu, a city half-destroyed during the Ethiopian invasion of 2000.
The area has been closed for decades and even today people are not accustomed to seeing visitors from outside. The Kunama are a reserved population, but traditional ceremonies like marriage can involve an entire village: everyone dances and sing in honor of the spouses.
